• Season over for German ski racer Dressen

eaver Creek (United States) (AFP) - German racer Thomas Dressen will not compete again this season after tearing his cruciate ligaments and dislocating his shoulder in the World Cup downhill in Beaver Creek, the German ski federation said on Saturday.

The 25-year-old who won last season’s prestigious Kitzbuehel downhill fell at speed after 44 seconds of the first run in Beaver Creek on Friday and careered into the safety netting.

The race was halted for 15 minutes to allow the stricken Dressen to be carried away on a stretcher and taken to hospital.

He claimed seventh place at last weekend’s opening World Cup event in Lake Louise and finished fifth in the event at the Pyeongchang Olympics.

When the race resumed, it was won by Beat Feuz of Switzerland, the Pyeongchang downhill bronze medallist.
